Module 11; Non representational art

Non-representational art is one of the many arrangements of art and can also be known with the the term of "abstract". It uses a visual representation of shape, form, color and lines to create a composition which may exist in a degree of independence from references in the world. Non-representational art is also the complete opposite to the realm of representative. In fact, a dictionary meaning of the term abstract is "not resembling or portraying any object in physical nature". It is guided with the concept that art is the strongest way for people to reflect upon one's feelings, views and perception, all in a unique way. The sources from which individual artists drew their theoretical arguments were diverse and it reflected upon the fundamental changes taking place in technology, science and philosophy of the time.

Abstract Painting
I found this on a website, I don't know who created it: understanding-nonrepresentational-art-with-examples

When it comes to artwork, I believe it to be the most diversely enjoyed expression of emotion... even just creativity. Anyone from any background or language can enjoy the non representational form of art because it is all about what each person sees. There is no translation necessary and no language barrier. For instance, using the picture above as an example, you don't need to have any specific background to look at and understand this piece of art in a way that is personally meaningful to you. I think it's absolutely insane how one painting could bring a different memory to each person who looks at it. With all that in mind this abstract painting reminds me of a road trip I went on. The sun was setting and the rolling hills that were in view turned into a bright golden color.

Ive come to realize while writing this that the abstract arrangement of art isn't just beneficial to the artist, but for the viewer. In many ways than not, you start to get lost in a piece and finally understand the ways in which a non representational artist thinks. You begin to believe that this is their escape from life, turning any realistic object into their own interpretation, showing the numerous perfections in a seemingly imperfect world.

  1. I absolutely love how you included a reference from your own experience in your interpretation of the bottom piece. I struggle with abstract art because it often feels disingenuous, but it can also bring forth the strongest of emotions. What I am finding is that it's not necessarily abstract art that feels phony, but my own discomfort at facing my emotions. I love having the opportunity to learn about these modern movements because I am gaining a greater appreciation for them. Your piece reflected a lot of my own feelings.

  2. I love the piece you choose, it's full of color and can be interpreted in so many ways like you said. There's no right or wrong answer when it comes to abstract art, it is what you see. It's never been my cup of tea per say but I do appreciate the piece you've chose and the great blog you've written along with it, great job!

  3. I can say this was really cool, and although I've learned of Abstract art before I've never seen it referred to as non-representational art. That was my favorite part of this whole thing; and the way how you explained this type of art it didn't feel boring which was awesome it all felt very well written. For the painting you chose to show, reminds me of Avatar the Last Air bender; looks like there's fire, earth, wind, and water it all looks very whole and complete.

  4. Your description of nonrepresentational art was very thorough and clearly laid out. If I knew nothing about nonrepresentational art to begin with, your description would have informed me. I can agree with your opinion on the subject: art is a form of expression of emotion, when thinking in an “abstract mindset,” your perspective on life could become newly shaped. I also like the piece you chose to share in your blog

  5. You included a lot of detail into this blog. It was very entertaining to read. I learned more about what nonrepresentational art is, so it is great how your blog became a great learning experience. Everything involved a great explanation, and the picture made it easier to understand what you were explaining. How difficult was it to find all of this information? Are your proud of your work?
